ANNE MURPHEY

I am originally from New York City, and have lived in British Columbia for almost twenty years – and on Bowen for a bit more than five. We feel very privileged to be a part of this community. When I am not helping out at Raghu’s Indian Kitchen, parenting, or walking our dog in the forest, I am Associate Professor in the Department of History at UBC. I am excited to be a part of the Hearth Board because I believe in all the Hearth -- and the Arts -- do on Bowen. For me, this is a chance to 'give back' - to bring my experience managing projects in the arts and education home to Bowen, and to support all that the Hearth does. In addition to my academic background - which has involved a number of interdisciplinary arts projects at intersection with historical research, through film, theatre, and the visual arts - I also had a long career in museum and pre-collegiate education before becoming a professor. So, I bring all of these things to my role on the Board, and hope I can contribute to helping the Bowen Arts Council continue to be a leading institution on Bowen for the Arts, making our beautiful island a place for thoughtful, creative, and ground-breaking work, and intellectual/artistic exchange and enjoyment.
