Off the Shores of Bowen Island

The sea around Bowen Island has some of the most spectacular species of marine life. Creating intricate and stunning sea beds, full of all sorts of wonder and beauty. Unfortunately, these ecosystems that we love are being threatened by global warming and the continued pollution of our oceans.

In response, The Hearth Gallery welcomes you to a Community Arts Workshop centered around the protection of BC’s oceans. Join us in creating a large painted seascape made up of marine species found off the coasts of Bowen Island and surrounding area.

Painting supplies are provided as well as reference material. Please bring yourself and clothes that you don't mind getting paint on. We will be painting outside The Hearth Gallery, please drop in and participate!

Learn about the giant pacific octopus’ astounding physiology, or the bull kelps environmental impact, or the diversity of bc starfish while painting them on a communal canvas.

On August 15th, there will be two painting sessions, one from 11AM-1:00PM and the other from 2:00PM-4:00PM. Sign up for a slot on our website. Please attend the session you registered for.

Entry by cash donation at the door. Participants are invited to donate 5 dollars to participate in the activity, however you are encouraged to donate more if you are able. All proceeds will be donated to the Bowen Island Conservancy for the continued protection of our beautiful wildlife.

This activity is a great opportunity to take a moment to appreciate the beautiful biodiversity that surrounds us, to learn more about the threats that our local marine life faces and to give back to the island through art. Let’s all come together for our oceans.
