Community Centre Coming to Bowen Island!

Our community says Yes!

For more than three decades the Hearth has been advocating for the construction of a multi-purpose community centre. The dream has never died, despite many disappointing setbacks. Last Saturday night, Bowen Island took one step closer to realizing this long-held dream.

Islanders voted resolutely in favour of the Community Centre project. The final tally was 965 or 64% choosing Yes, with 534 or 34% opting No. In total, 1500 ballots were cast, representing 46% of 3,270 registered voters.

We’ve come so far, and it’s all systems go!

The Hearth thanks everyone who has played a role in getting us to this point. The dozens of people who have committed their time, expertise, energy and passion to this initiative are champions among us. We congratulate those who voted Yes in the referendum, and we look forward to working with all islanders to ensure they are able to find their place in the new public facility.
