NATURAL LIGHT was recorded unexpectedly over 6 magical days by four best buds in a cabin by a lake. Here, there is a returnto folk music’s classic underpinnings of political resistance. A return to writing “song songs” thatmight be played around a campfire. Mangan has experimented rigorously with his sound over the years, but resting in hisroots may be where he operates most effortlessly.There is something fitting in Mangan hitting this high watermark at this stage of his life and career. You can trace thechapters of his story in the fabric of Natural Light. You’ll find remnants of the tenacious young artist who booked tours ofEurope via Myspace in the mid 2000s. The emergent songwriter who hibernated into fatherhood just as arena-folkexploded in the early 2010s. The genre-bender who has subtly challenged his audience with each album, tracing a uniquetrajectory of confronting and eclipsing his own art.Over two decades, Mangan has managed an enviably strong creative ethic, and his integrity as both a singer andsongwriter has only strengthened with age. This summer Kingbaby Theatre is mounting Samuel Beckett's masterpiece of modern theatre at the Bowen Theatre! 

One of Samuel Beckett’s most celebrated and visionary works, Happy Days follows Winnie, a middle aged everywoman who greets each day with determination, humour, and an unwavering belief in the possibility of happiness, despite the most dire and desolate of circumstances.

At the heart of this production is a continuing family collaboration. Jackie Minns takes on the towering role of Winnie, in a tour-de-force performance not to be missed, while David Cameron appears as Willie, her often-silent companion whose presence provides an anchor and sole point of connection, however elusive. Their son, Andrew Cameron, returns as director, after the successes with Mad Mabel's Christmas and The View. The production explores the play’s profound questions about solitude, connection, endurance, and how we fill the seemingly infinite moments of our lives.

Staged at The Bowen Theatre the production embraces both the comedy and the existential depth of Beckett’s masterpiece. With stage management by Jenny Freeman and costumes designed by Ines Ortner (The Real Rapunzel), the production offers audiences a fresh encounter with a modern classic that remains as moving, funny, and startling today as when it was first written.

Happy Days is a celebration of perseverance in the face of uncertainty—a poignant and often hilarious portrait of human resilience that invites us to find meaning, connection, and even joy amid life's most brutal circumstances.

Alex Wells visits the Bowen Theatre to present a cultural performance to share stories that have been passed down from generation to generation through song and dance.

Each historical dance has its own story to tell, from the outfits to the steps into the hoops, a creation story of life and of plants and animals. 

This special performance is in support and celebration of National Indigenous History Month.

World Oceans Day: “Moonflower” Screening & Filmmaker Discussion

Celebrate World Oceans Day with a special screening of "Moonflower", the heartfelt documentary by student filmmaker Duncan Glave. Follow Duncan’s journey across the globe as he explores the science, beauty, and challenges facing the world’s coral reefs. Blending animation, personal storytelling, and interviews with leading ocean scientists, "Moonflower" is both an ocean love story and a call to action for climate solutions.

After the screening, attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage directly with Duncan during a live discussion and Q&A. Learn about the inspiration behind the film, the process of creating a self-funded documentary, and practical steps we can all take to protect our oceans and environment.

Duncan, 22, is a first time documentary filmmaker and Studio Arts student at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, who grew up on Bowen Island. He spent the past 2 years creating this self-funded film with the goal of inspiring youth and artists to rally around climate solutions.

Wonder Women!

Celebrating the music and stories of female composers

“Why hurry over beautiful things? Why not linger and enjoy them?” So pondered Clara Schumann, remembered as one of the finest pianists of all time.

In “Wonder Women!”, pianist Sarah Hagen delves into the remarkable stories and piano music of forgotten female composers from the classical repertoire. This recital will highlight piano works by 18th and 19th century composers, including Clara Schumann, Cécile Chaminade, Delphine von Schauroth, and others. Included will be stunningly gorgeous music by Marianna Martines, who lived in the same circles as Haydn and Mozart, and often joined Mozart in piano duets at the musical soirées she and her sister held in their Viennese home.

A note from the performer:

I began performing this programme after purchasing a disappointingly thin volume of music by female composers about 20 years ago. After reading through the music, I remember shutting the book and thinking to myself, There must be more music than this, and certainly more music of a better quality!. I simply didn’t feel the collection fairly represented the music that had been created by women during the 18th and 19th centuries. So I set off on a musical treasure hunt, searching online, through old collections of music, and in libraries. I have found that good music is getting easier to find as scholars take more of an interest in researching these remarkable women. So, I am constantly refreshing the programme!

I am also continually fascinated by the stories of the strong women behind the music. These are the women who fought for equal pay as their male colleagues, who insisted that they could also have a life and a career outside of the kitchen, who chose to shockingly forgo marriage to be able to fully focus on their art. These are the trailblazers who are an invaluable part of our journey to gender equality.

I have especially found that high school students are particularly interested in hearing these stores. Somehow hearing the music makes the stories of female strength and resilience come to life for the students in an inspiring way.

4-time JUNO-nominated artist Jeremy Fisher will be performing family-friendly music from his entire catalogue! There will be some toddler specific songs as well as songs and stories that appeal to everyone. Fun for the whole family!

ABOUT: Jeremy Fisher has released 6 studio albums and his music has been featured on radio, in film (The Big Year, Our Idiot Brother), commercials (Volkswagen, American Airlines), and as main title TV themes (Disney, Global).

Over the last 20 years Jeremy has toured the world and shared the stage with artists such as Alanis Morissette, Blue Rodeo and Indigo Girls.
