Cara Luft + The Luckies (SHARI ULRICH, HILARY GRIST & JEANNE TOLMIE)

The Luckies were born In July, 2022 when SHARI ULRICH found herself with the bottom having fallen out of a project - her with two powerful female singer-songwriters she was bringing to the famed MusicFest in Comox BC - just days before the festival. She pondered who could replace such remarkable women and thought of HILARY GRIST and JEANNE TOLMIE. Both were an instant YES! They were only able to convene just a few hours before their MainStage set, and hit the stage with a miraculously polished performance, complete with gorgeous three-part harmonies on all the songs. It was exhilarating, exciting, and unimaginably FUN! Shari says…”Of all the collaborations I have had in my life, the ones that sustained were those that were intended as a one-off and felt so damn good that we wanted to do it again…and again…and again. In some cases for decades! Having started my life in music as an instrumentalist, I have always loved playing with other artists and supporting songwriters whose work I love, and have their support on my songs as well. It’s my favourite thing to do in music. But this combination was an unexpected wonderful surprise! Hence the name!”

Rough Crossing

This raucous seafaring comedy from award-winning writer Tom Stoppard (Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead; Shakespeare In Love) is set in the 1930s and follows the desperate efforts of two playwright/directors to pull their wayward cast and composer together and deliver a smash hit musical by the time their ocean liner crosses the Atlantic - roughly 4.5 days.

The play sparkles with brilliant comedic timing, non-stop punnery and sharp wit, and a splash of good old classic drag. An all-local, all-star cast truly make this production shine, especially as they're outfitted by the inimitable Shirley Wrinch costume collection!

Directed by Calder Stewart (Blood Relations, 2019; The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] [again], 2024), this play is sure to be another smashing success - and is just the effervescent comedic cocktail you need to warm up those dreary autumn days.

Performance Dates: Oct 17th, 18th , and 24th, 25th. 7.30PM

Content Advisory:

This play contains very mild sexual references, and alcohol is consumed onstage throughout; probably most suitable for ages 12+.
